The Top 3 Reasons Most Athletes Don’t Hit Their Running Goals
Reason #1: Relying On Natural Talent
There’s something that happens when we’re naturally good at something. Natural talent lends itself to the thought that because I inherently have this skill, I don’t have to train as hard as someone who may lack that level of natural talent.
While this works if the goal is to just be good enough at something to enjoy doing it, it’s not a recipe for excellence.
Natural talent can only take you so far and what tends to happen for those who rest on their laurels is that they end up being disappointed with the results without really understanding what to do in order to attain that deep sense of achievement you get from setting a goal and hitting or even surpassing it.
These individuals typically lack the structure in their training that allows them to push out of their comfort zone and hit new PRs.
Reason #2: They Get Injured
Any sport where you’re doing the same motion repeatedly carries the risk of overuse injury. We see this with runners, bikers, swimmers, crossfitters, etc.
The body can only take so much of the same thing done to one extreme and runners fall into this trap more than any other athletes.
It’s common to think that to become a better runner you just have to run more.
As a result, most runners wind up with joint pain, getting injured, or run into overuse injury becausee they are just training one way.
What also true is that they tend to train in one particular way… running hard ALL THE TIME.
This just makes things worse.
Reason #3: They Lose Motivation
There are two very different types of runners.
One is the runner who absolutely loves the solitude and alone time. In fact, it fuels them. For these individuals, running in groups is just a distraction.
The second is those who actually thrive on being around others. When they are it pushes them to be better, it fuels their need for connection and healthy competition and is massively supportive for them in their training.
But when those who thrive on coaching and community don’t have that aspect of their training dialed in, they often feel that something is missing but it’s hard for them to put their finger on it.
Hey, I'm Matt Choi
I got into running after being an athlete most of my life. I was able to cross the finish line but I was never really able to feel the massive sense of accomplishment I’d hear other athletes and YouTubers talk about.
I was always hungry for more. I was proud of myself but there was this level of deep satisfaction that I just hadn’t really gotten to yet.
And I craved it.
So I decided to study religiously, get all the books, and hire all the coaches.
I spent every spare minute I had watching YouTube videos and trying to dissect and understand what these big-time content creators and athletes were doing that helped them not only train hard and hit their goals but live an epic life too.
After a couple of years of immersing myself and getting the right coaches in my corner, I finally saw what wasn’t working and what to do in order to blast through my limits.
And what’s crazy to me is that I not only shaved an hour off my time but I went from your typical runner build to actually building MORE muscle.

Many people say it’s counterintuitive but I’d argue that this is THE REASON I was able to shave an entire hour off of my time.
That actually translates to going from running an 8:58 minute mile to a 6:45 minute mile for 26.2 miles.
From a finishing time of 3:55 to a sub 3 hour time of 2:57 and qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
In my opinion, I went from an average runner to an impressive runner.
Others around me were training the same amount of hours a day with the same effort but I was getting better results.
And that’s when I realized what I was doing with my method that allowed me to quantum leap my results.
The 5 Pillars Of The Limitless Mindset Method

Limitless Mindset
Learn to discern between the voice of limitation and the voice of possibility.

Physical
Endurance
Build the physical capacity to go the distance and a foundation of strength.

Strategic
Recovery
Prioritize the right kind of rest and recovery to optimize your training and avoid injury.

Hybrid
Plan
Running is more than just miles. An effective plan is a holistic perspective.

Quality
Coaching
Save time, avoid injury, and get support through knowledgable and experienced experts.
After all the research and all the trial and error, it came down to these 5 things.
And this is what allowed me to, in one year, go from a 3:55 marathon to just under 3 hours between February 2021 and August 2022.

We hear about a lot of athletes that are training for races that are...
- Getting injured frequently or just extremely fatigued
- Overtraining
- Struggling to even make it to the start line
- Experiencing nagging strains and pains
- Having a hard time keeping weight, getting enough calories, or maybe on the other side eating too much or the wrong things.
- Hitting a threshold that they're not able to break through their current mileage
- Losing the motivation to keep going in their training
Training for endurance events can is hard enough as it is.
Imagine having everything mapped out for you to a T where you just have to show up.
We’ve got you covered.
All you have to do is show up and do the work.
